R/C Help - URGENT
#1
Right I got my HPI Savage and all the extra bits (Glow plug starter, Fuel, etc)
I have tried and tried to start it but to no avail and several large blisters.
Firstly. I didn't charge the glowplug starter for 12 hour, I thought that a couple of hours would give it enough to get it going. Is this one of the reasons?
The Glow plug starter only just seems to reach the glowplug. Is this normal?
I primed the carb and put the glowplug starter on, set the throttle to about 1/4 way on and pulled the starter cord. NOTHING.
Then the ****** flooded. I removed the glowplug, emptied it out and put the glowplug back in.
Tried again and it started for about 1 second and then died.
Someone help, I wanna play with my ne toy. At the moment it's just an expensive ornament.

unsrew your glowplug from the motor and plug it straight to glowplug starter, the glowplug should heat up and turn orange. If it does'nt thats the prob. new glowplug required.

Have you ever watched a pro starting one of these footery things?
Look underneath, you should see a small gap with the fly wheel visable throught it. This can be used to start the engine with a modified starter box.
I race 1/8th Scale, Serpents, Slides and the like and use a custom made starter box for this purpose. A starter box turns the engine over far faster than is possible by hand.
If you dont have a starter box then you need to turn the engine over as fast as possible by hand, this involves continuous and very fast pulls of the started cord until the b****r starts. You should pull as fast and quick as you physically can without snapping the cord. Most folk think just pulling the cord half heartedly is the way to go, can then never start them and end up flinging them in the bin.
When I raced 1/10 scale nitros I usually primed the engine myself with a drop or 2 of fuel through the airfilter intake (with the filter popped off. Even doing this it usually required a fair bit of high speed yanking to get it to fire up and tick over nicely.
You should never set the throttle as high as 1/4, usually your radio gear can set up the throttle to open just a fraction for starting, mines was usually set at 4 or 5 %, rather than 25%.
What % of nitro are you using, as different % is required for various nitro engines from 10 - 25%, some shops will sell you anything.

The manual states 20% nitro but the highest I could get was 16%.
I have just arranged a long reach glowplug starter as the one I had was only just reaching.
I will give it another go tonight.
