Thinking of investing in a new watch soon...
The one I like in particular is the Breitling B1.
It may not be to everyone's taste as it's quartz as opposed to mechanical, quite large and has two digital dispays. But it's a beauty in my opinion.
Anyone else got one or similar? Any pointers or things to look out for before I spend my money?

Quite fancy the Aerospace myself... Have dropped plenty of hints to my girlfriend but to no avail
It's very much like the Emergency, but without the emergency transmitter bit

I personally think they are overpriced for what is in fact ,a quartz watch. However if you want one i definately wouldnt pay full price for one.I recently enquired about buying a Blancpain divers watch, normal retail £3,800.I rang round a few authorised dealers and within 1 hour was offered a genuine one, from an authorised dealer for £2,800.
With a bit of persistance a 20% discount should be available.

Yeah the Emergency watch is pretty too...
...it has the emergency transmitter which, when activated, broadcasts a distress signal to 20,000 feet.. which is nice ... but it costs an additional £1000 or so, which I can't justify for a feature I hope never to use... Besides - I think the transmitter is only for aero-nautical use only - setting the thing off in the pub levies huge fines I believe

I think setting it off renders the watch useless. If it's a genuine distress call, Breitling give you a new one (or fix it or something). If not, you're on your own.
It says on the Breitling website that you must only use the emergency transmitter if you're involved in an incident involving an aircraft and water (e.g. ditching at sea). However, if I was stuck halfway up a mountain and the weather was closing in, I don't think I'd have any hesitation in using it....

You are correct about the transmitter, the watch comes in large black case with a screwdriver "a la grenade" ,a frequency tester, info booklet and large red warning label about improper use and fines.
If you unscrew the airial you break a seal,if its for the right reasons that you deployed it Brietling with reset and re seal the watch FOC,if not your in for a shock.

Ta for the feedback guys
Definately not going to buy the Breitling Emergency...
I couldn't trust myself with it... and I reckon having one of these fellas pick you up from the pub might prove a little costly
LOL
But still planning on the B1, despite it's size, cost and the fact that it's "only" a quartz watch - good point though Paul - not planning on paying full price...
Diablo - you stalking me?

I was looking at the Bretling Emergency in Schipol recently, just killing time (horrible watch) and a guy came up to me who was wearing one and said you have to do a half-hour interview before they activate the gps locator thingy, along the lines of - now you're not going to press that button are you.... are you sure, it's a £15k call out charge if you're mucking about

Breitling often do "specials" for RAF Squadrons - Aerospace watches with sqn crests, RAF wings or aircraft sillouettes on them.
Often been tempted but sadly my wife is an evil bitch and won't let me
She's probably right though - I'd only lose it etc
The best thing is we get them for about £750

Some specific replies:
Steve
Agreed, but I've always liked watches and this will be my first good quality one, so I'm pushing the boat out...

Quite like the Aerospace too - might even go for that one if I think the B1 is just toooo big in the flesh!
paulpalmer

paulr
Nice. But I can't give you any feedback as I've never seen one let alone owned one!
Diablo

I belive that in some countries, you can't even buy the Emergency without producing a pilots licience... £15K
Pete
Drop bigger hints mate and good luck!
(Maybe pick up a copy of "Cronolog03" the current catalogue and leave some pics lying around in appropriate places )

Merkin, good choice I'm interested in getting a Panerai, gorgeous!!! The box it comes in is solid wood, beautiful!
As to Breitling, I have one, and like it, BUT it keeps AWFUL time. I would not buy one again.

Johnny,
The time keeping is adjustable at service centres.
RichS,
I've left the book on the kitchen table for a week now What a brochure it is too!!

Where did you get your poor-timekeeping Breitling from? My dad bought an Omega Seamaster from Madeira, and the timekeeping was poor. The service centre pointed out that it would have been adjusted for a hot climate, not the lower temperatures and moisture-laden atmosphere we get in the UK.
OTOH -- this is supposed to be a diver's watch
