Some police forces have signed up to a scheme where they get to keep some of the money from the speeding fines to finance new cameras, film, people to fill them, people to send out the paperwork etc etc. This is known as .....a long word.... hypothecation or something like that.
To attempt to avoid a backlash from disgruntled drivers (as if....) forces who are doing this have agreed that they will paint the cameras yellow, not hide them, put signs before the cameras, take the signs down where there are no cameras and some other stuff I forget no doubt.
Forces that are not part of this trial have no such restrictions. So depending on where you are some grey cameras are still legal, some aren't. Confusing or what.
