USA emigration

Anyone have any details of what it entails?
I need to get out of this country, I'm sick to death of giving out 70% of my wages to look after other people...this country is sinking fast.
Why spend £150,000 on a 2 bedroomed semi when for the same money you can have a 5 bedroomed detached house with a double garage and a swiming pool. You don't have to give all your money to the government so they can pass it on to imigrants in 5 star hotels and lazy buggers who don't want to work and keep having more kids to get more money out of us.
Plus, you can fill your scooby up for about a tenner
Thats enough ranting, I'm winding myself up now...hehehe
So back to the question.......anyone know what I need.
I have money in the bank and a degree behind me for work prospects.
Thanks...

Even with a CISSP, CISA and CCNA?
I was chatting some some American mates from an online security community we run and they advised that although general IT work had died, security was still booming. Although this is not a certainty, it did raise my hopes.

How about Canada?
I think it might be easier, standards of living similar, and they get snow which means more fun in a scoob! Big houses, cheap food, decaffinated Americans. Not bad.
Oh, and I think you can apply online and get an accurate response on whether or not you qualify just by filling in a form. Sounds easy.

Get out while the going is good!
My uncle married an american and then got divorced a year later to get his green card.
So find a yankee **** star who wont be flatter than a 'witches tit' and be her co-star!

Hey guys.... the grass ain't that much greener.... believe me.
I grew up in Canada and it would be my worst nightmare to go back there now....but that is only my opinion..... before making such a life changing decision then do some investigating before hand... being British you would probably have a better chance of getting into Canada than the US... the Yanks are still very 'Reds under the Beds'.
And don't think for one minute there isn't an immigration problem in Canada, difference is there's just a bit more space for them to spread out in ...

There are ways around the Green Card Lottery for UK residents apparently.
If any of your parents aren't UK nationals by birth, then you could qualify. Still a small chance though.
Why the US, and not Oz which could be easier to get into ?

I already have all the details I need for Oz.
I don't have any questions about that. My choice will proably be either Oz or US, I was just looking for more info and opinions on the US because I don't have much as yet

If you want to live in a place with low taxes, Canada is NOT the place to be.
Move to the US and get a "Green Card." That will let you stay up to 5 years (I think).
The job market here isn't that bad, it just isn't as good as it was. When unemployment gets over 5%, people here tend to freak out.
Since you're moving here, you do have an advantage. You are not tied down to a certain area. That means you can search the entire country for employment, not just 1 city.

No thats not entirely true. Bush for all his faults is not a racist. He's human. His reponse to Iraq is more out of emotional context than anything. If I were in his shoes, I'd do the exact same thing. Punishing my enemies more than what was dished out to me in the first place (as what I did in the incident a year ago ). I mean, they did try to kill his daddy..

Don't go to the USA, go to Canada instead.
We've had a US office for a while now, which I visit from time to time. I like America, but would not move there.
Now Canada, well, different prospect, basically 2.5 times cheaper to live out there. Mate was just looking at a very nice huge 2 bedroom house, was $169,000, which works out about £68,000 now, dunno about where you live, but I can't even get a 1 bed studio flat for that!

thanks Markus,
You have just turned Canada into a possibility.
Are the jobs and lifestyle out there similar to the US?
e.g. us brits allways go out drinking friday, saturday and sunday.
Most other coutries find this very strange and look at us as alkies.
I don't wanna move somewhere what I consider boring. The great outdoors is not my idea of fun. I like fast cars, fast women and fast money and plenty of beer

I have two Canadian cousins. They have lived in British Columbia, Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto. They have both left Canada. One moved to the US (Dallas) and one moved to Australia. Why? High cost of living (ie, taxes), and a general lack of jobs.
Here's a house in my town that just sold for a little under $200,000:

actually, I think it would cost more that $1,000,000 US
If that house was bought in the south of the UK, your probably looking at closer to $2,000,000 US
Thats the kinda thing were dealing with day to day.

hotsam,
What did your cousins do? Bear in mind I'm in IT, and would be qualified as 'highly skilled' (am about 1 of about 10 people in the world with my level of experience) plus as it's an inter-company transfer I'd be guarenteed a job, so that's not a problem for me.
I must say that the house looks lovely and as said, it'd be at least £500,000 quid over here, so Can$200,000 would be about oooh, £80 - 100,000 which is fecking amazing value.
As for what Canada is like, well, never been there, yet! but Toronto has got to be more lively than St Louis, and certainly more lively than the little ol town of Columbia, IL. Have been told by a few people it's a great place to live, more friendly than America.
Just have to watch out for people saying 'aboot' and ending sentances with 'a'
