I passed my test, ooooh, long time about, bout 8 years I guess.
Suzy passed her a mere 4 years ago.
comparing our driving licences the other night and she reckons that she cannot tow a trailer as she does not have the required privelege to do so, but I do.
So,
Is she correct? If so then how on earth does she go about being able to tow a trailer?
It's not that I don't belive her, it's just that I can't understand what the hell you'd have to do to be able to tow a trailer, take another test? if so then I've never heard about another test for this.
any help?

Druddle,
I fairly sure this won't affect you. It is all about your category B pass date. The fact you have to renew every 5 years dosn't lose you previous entitlements.
While we're on the subject, I only found out last night that if you get a category C or D licence, you are considered a "new" driver in that category for 2 years. If, in that time, you accumulate 6 points (in any vehicle) you lose the new entitlement. This is the first I've heard of this! When I got my cat C six years ago, this wasn't even mentioned in the bumpf when I got the new licence back. I've also just passed my C+E, so I better watch out for the next 2 years.
Seems that the DVLA need to make new licence legislation more widely known.

Was a brief article in the Telegraph motoring section about this a while ago, apparantly a lot of people are unintentionally breaking the law by towing without a license (ie passed after Jan 97) So far Police have been fairly good about it, just warniongs etc. but in light of the idiot who was towing and caused the train accident, I can only see them getting more proactive.
In hindsight I would have found it very helpful to take a couple of lessons, before towing, my first time was sharing with a friend towing a Caterham back from Cornwall. Probably worth contacting local Caravan Club for furthur info, as I know they run courses on towing/loading.
course I wouldn't dream of towing a caravan myself, racecars only for me
