Posted on behalf of my mum (bless her ).

Mum & Dad are looking for a new TV - not too bothered about all the latest gadgets etc - just want a nice TV with decent sound. Sound is very important as my Dad uses a hearing aid. They had a look around John Lewis and the one that impressed the most was the Loewe Vitros 28" widescreen (model 6270ZW).

First question - has anyone else got one - what are your thoughts?
Second question - price: John Lewis are quoting £849. Obvious advantage is that you get decent service / delivery and a 5 year warranty. However, I know JL will cut deals and price match where possible, so there is no harm in trying - anyone know websites for good deals on Loewe TVs?

Thanks
Chris

Thanks Si

I think the model number is actually 6370 ZW - according to the Loewe website.

My feelng on the subject of TV sound, is that you can always connect any TV to a hi-fi. If they have a decent enough stereo, there's no reason to choose the telly by what it sounds like - judge on picture instead.

I have a Loewe Credo 32" TV, 3 years old, and it was definitely one of the best available at the time in terms of picture quality (and the sound wasn't half bad either - it has a subwoofer built into the base). Things have moved on a lot, though, and other manufacturers have certainly caught up.

The Credo (and maybe other models) is based on a Philips tube, so if you like the look of the image, consider a Philips set too.

JL is a great place to buy - when I bought my previous TV from them, they not only price matched the cheapest dodgy on-line retailer I could find, but included the 5 year warranty too. They may have stopped doing this sort of deal by now, but it's worth a go. My Loewe set came with a 3 year mfr's guarantee anyway (which bought me £1000+ worth of new tube last year )

I have a Loewe Xelos 32" and it's superb. A definite recommendation! Great looks and pic quality. Not sure about stand alone sound as mine is rigged up through a big amp etc

After looking at all the other top brands i eventually bought a Loewe Articos 32", as others i don't use the sound due to having seperate amp and processor but the picture quality is the best i have ever seen and any who sees it comments on the picture. Visit AV Forum to get more info.
