Air Traffic Control system
#1
I'm in the middle of playing Deliverance on the PC. With their spatial awareness, why can't these programmers write an Air Traffic Control system to replace the multi-million pound systems that the government can't get to work. IMHO, it would be a piece of cake for these guys. After all, planes don't leap around, hiding behind pillars and so on.

Anthony,
the last that i heard was that the air traffic control computers at Preswick (covering Scotland) were still PDP-11s, which is thirty to forty year old technology (although still very efficient). You could probably fit the systems entire memory _and_ disk storage in a modern PC's video-RAM.
Nope, it is not a technology issue but politics (and who gets the contract )
