Well, as some of you know I'm a Gastroenterologist....
After 3 years of HARD work in Edinburgh I finished my research work (outwith of the NHS)and finally completed my 35000 word thesis.
Amongst that I have published over 15 papers in recognized journals and now work in Oxfordshire as a Specialist Registrar before my consultant job.
I underwent nearly 3 hours of a stringent oral viva concerning my work (and after corrections) I have just been granted the letters MD (Doctor of Medicine).
All this may seem irrelevant to Scoobynet, but since I started posting on scoobynet soon after starting my research - I thought I'd share this with the community.
Chuffed to bits yes, drunk - yes - but still an active poster on the best BBS yet.
Cheers,
Simon Campbell MB ChB (Hons) MRCP(UK) MD (Edin.)
a la Gastro !

Well done Gastro - glad it was worth all the effort in the end (as it were missus!)
You realise you'll now get more folk at parties showing you their scars, drippy bits etc.?
Congrats again!
Cheers,
Steve

My PhD oral was so long (4 hours!) that myself and BOTH examiners had to go for a pee break before chapter 5! Very, very surreal situation standing three abreast at the urinals making small talk with the deciders of your future!
(PS Part of my PhD was spent looking at immune status in pre-surgical GI patients with Ken Fearon at Edinburgh Royal!)
