Question

have used one of the websites in "help Ive been hacked" to check my system which is protected with Zonealarm.........and I have been told that ICMP and POP3 are open.
How do I close Pop 3 and still receive emails and what is ICMP?.
Keep it simple,I'm stupid.

As long as you can send and receive mails and GRC/Help I've Been Hacked says you're OK then everything should be fine.

Dave

You should be OK now - The fact that you have ZoneAlarm running onn your PC now will mean that it will detect any attempted connections to your machine.

ICMP if you're curious, is Internet Control Message Protocol - most commonly seen with PING. PING uses ICMP to check internet connections. If you come across other stuff you don't know, you can have a look at

Although the most visible aspect of ICMP is PING, there are several other parts which "do exactly what is says on the tin"
i.e. control your Internet messages. e.g. if your data packets are too big to cross a link in the middle of the Internet then an ICMP message may be returned requesting you send smaller packets...
