Dying red hair dark brown
#1
Any hairdressers on here ? (long shot I know)
I have red hair - quite light red - not dark red & want to dye it a brown-ish colour.
Apparantly red is a very strong colour so do I need to bleach out all the red then dye or is there a colour that I can apply to red hair to dye it without the need to bleach ?
Also - I guess when it starts to grow out the contrast between red & brown is quite obvious so the red is going to start showing through after a few weeks - any tips on keeping it covered ?

DO NOT BLEACH YOUR HAIR FIRST!!!!! If you do that, when you put the brown colour on it'll turn Khaki!!! I'm not a hair dresser but i've dyed my hair all colours and I would say you need to buy a brown you like then cut a few strands of hair from your head and do a 'Strand test' to see how the colour will take. Alternatively, go to the hairdressers for the first colouring then start doing it yourself after that!!

Rumplestiltskin! - make sure you also get your eyebrows and eyelashes dyed as well. The eyebrows are painless, but having the eyelashes done take a bit of getting used to. Stings like **** at first but it's worth doing.

What was the rest of her body like ...
Wanted to dye my hair blond for a fancy dress party once.
Too involved a process for one night of foolishness so didn't bother.
Half bald now so using a Mach III. Saves on lightbulbs though.

So I can just buy a brown dye & put it straight onto red hair ?
Someone told me that red is the strongest colour & shrugs off dye so all the red needed bleaching out first.
Anyone know a good dye ?

I've used Movida dyes and they're great. I've also used the 'labelly' ones like Charles Worthington and Nicky Clarke but they're not really up to much. Don't know what you look like but if you're naturally red, make sure you choose a shade that won't make your skin look pale and washed-out. And don't forget your eyebrows.
Hair dyes have come a long way since the days when you couldn't put certain shades on top of certain shades. Best thing to do is wrap your hair in cling film or a carrier bag when you've put the dye on, and use a hairdryer to create warmth - this will make sure the colour takes as it should.
Good luck,
A
