Woodburning stoves used as central heating boilers?
#1
Thinking of one of these for an old property. (The area it is in has loads of cheap firewood). I know they exist, but wonder if anyone has any experiences, good or bad, of them?
Questions that occur to me are:
how easy are they to control?
what happens to the stove when your water/rads are hot enough?
why doesn't it just boil off all the water?
Cheers for any comments, (serious ones: )

You should only consider Scandinavian stoves as British ones are ****e. Check out Jotul, and Morso, for example......
You could of course go the whole hog and get an Aga.....if your pockets are deep enough. I would personally go for a solid fuel stove, which can burn wood and coal, this gives you a degree of flexibility.
As well as the Jotul and Morso and Aga websites, you could try the Solid Fuel Advisory service.
A decent heating engineer can sort out connecting a solid fuel system (with imersion tank backup) no problem. Dont ask me how though.

There are plenty out there (and don't forget European manufacturers who have a bit of experience of this ) - we have a Hase stove which is incredibly efficient - it is just a freestanding stove but will heat most of our 2500 sq ft house!
You need to find one with a back boiler (the water doesn't boil off because it is pump circulated).
