Remote Dial-up Outlook.....grrrrrr
#1
Basically, all emails, contacts etc are kept on the server at work & although you can see/read/play with them whilst logged on, they are never actually transferred to your PC. Similar to the way Outlook Web Access works. This is also why you log onto any PC at your office & see your email (if function enabled).
As I understand it

Being a newbie to this - what am I doing wrong...?
Dialing up from home into the Company Email system (Outlook) no problem - all new emails present & correct.
Log off & then go into outlook "offline"...all emails have vanished !
Work out that maybe I have to "synchronize" folders before logging off (???)
That takes forever.
Once I have done a synch then log off & back on again offline all emails are there but when I read/delete them & then dial in they are all there again !
I am pretty IT illiterate so can someone give me a bluffers guide to remote access email.....thanks !

With corporate Outlook you can sync emails contacts and then read offline. As you have deduced if you read stuff offline you need to sync in order to get the server copy to match your local copy.
I sync every 60 mins when in the office, then modem syncs are quicker.

when you set up a default synch, it happens when you log off. Do this in the office to make dial up synching faster. When you delete items off-line and then go-online again, the changes won't be synched until you log off, so you will see the stuff you deleted. Easier way round this is to force a synch when you log on. Unfortunatelt you can't do this automatically
