but is there a such thing as an internal fax machine
(ie sending and fax or small papers to another department in the same building(no! email not the same)

 

Yes - you can fax from one extension to another. I don't suppose it matters if you address the machine by it's internal extension or it's full external number (if it has one). You can also use SMTP-to-FAX to send FAX's from you PC, but that needs to be installed on your PABX.

 

To find out the number of your fax, ring an extension from it

ie send a fax to your desk phone which might be number 202. If you have an LCD display on your phone, it may show you the extension number.

If not, ask whoever looks after the switch.
