You must have a death wish attempting to join the telecomms industry - most people who I knew in telecomms are now working as painters/decorators or in garden design.
We have had 8 account managers with our current telecomms providor in a year !

Equant
I work for them - to be honest no better or worse than any other large company that I've worked for. Owned by France Telecom and currently running the worlds largest network (despite the fact you've probably never heard of them!)

Chris L,
What do you at Equant? (AKA France Telecom) i used to have loads of dealings with the Nortel GSP telephony switch based in the Docklands (which used to be Global One, didn't Equant take them over?) did DMS 100/GSP software support plus a whole bunch of other stuff. Now looking for work after being made redundant at Nortel. I hear there is a position vacant for a Senior Nortel switch engineer at the Docklands site...wchi i have applied for

Hi Mark / ChrisL
Another nortel refugee, another telco - portal software (billing).. just down the road from equant..... Seems a pretty fair place to work (so far) Besides, being made redundant is quite lucrative
We were hiring not so long ago (only been here 2 months) but I don't know.

Just in the process of finishing up with my present company, where I have been selling IP infrastructure solutions via Satellite into god forsaken places in the world ...
Benn having a look arouns at the Telecoms market in the Uk and from the outside it still looks pretty depressed...
Guys with loads of experience all having to drop wage brackets etc and take steps sideways etc..
Anyone got any jobs for me then

Another Nortel refugee here.
Currently work for AT&T and they are hiring as they are extremely strong in the market at the moment.
Plantie - what area are you looking to work? What location? If you want, mail me your CV as per profile address and I'll give it to my boss.

Work with Symposium and Meridian mainly, although I do defect into Definity and Avaya Switches with a little HiCom thrown in for variety. Mainly for Europe, Middle East and Africa at the moment.
Everything from sticking a new phone on a desk (this site only...unfortunately! ) to writing complete call centres, script by script from scratch.

Ah. Products. What're they Got into telco's by accident. Spent 3+ years sat in the same desk developing management application add-ons that never got used (afaik 1 project actually went live )
Now escaped to a billing company, become a consultant. 35% payrise (who said the market's crap ), could be sent anywhere in EMEA at the drop of a hat. They say a change is as good as a rest....
Then again sometimes wish I could get out of IT completely and do something like - oh - sweeping the streets? That season as a snowboard bum still seems like a really good idea
