Jury service and the self employed
Have any of you who are self employed been called up to do jury service? If so what are the arrangements for compensation for loss of earnings and travel costs. I have just found something on the web that refers to an allowance of £49 per day which is totally ridiculous. My wife who is self employed has been called up and can't afford to do ten days on 49 measly quid (it'll cost half that in petrol to get to the court, especially as she'll be going in my Scoob!!).
It seems like jurors are treated worse than the criminals.
Has anyone managed to get out of doing jury service? If so how?
Thanks,
Pete.

Pete I got told last October I had to go, but i'd just started a new contract and I defferred it. I think that you can claim your income if you can prove how much you earn. I seem to remember reading this on one of the forms. Bet its Carlisle she'll be going to. I have to go in May and i'm not looking forward to it. It'll cost me a fortune to get there as well!!
