I came out of our car scheme five years ago and took the cash instead, when I had a "K" tax coding - tax code of MINUS 300

Since then thanks to our present government's obsession with screwing the motorist it's even worse.....

Tough for the first year or so - having to stump up the cash for a new car!! - but wouldn't go back now...

Same here. I could have a 1.6 vectra, or the money. OK, the scoob cost me a bit more (but I'm tight so I bought from Holland), but I would not dream of going anywhere near a company car now.

It's good for the environment too: I take public transport (trains) when I can, as I do lose on the petrol (11.1p / mile).

There's also tax breaks available if you use your own car for company business which can be quite good.

I took the cash a little while ago now and havn't looked bad since either. My Tax code should be normal after this april but it's been in the K's as well.

It's nice not having to pay insurance, tax and maint cost's but at the end of the day it's better to own your own car and if you get car allowance then the company buy it for you anyway.
