What would you like to see in a rally game?

Forgot my password - so re-registered
Anyways - I'm looking for ideas for a new rally game - any features/options you would paricularly like to see? any bonus cars (classic rally cars), any particular tracks? anything? - anybody who has any good ideas that are used will get a credit.
Regards
Dario

Hmmm, what about being able to do engine swaps between manufactures car's.
All the usual tyres, gearbox and suspension mods. Also able to change exhaust, airfilters and dumpvalves to obtain different authentic sounds.
Being able to go up against different present and past WRC drivers in a head to head on there all time favourite course/stage. The ability to swap the WRC drivers between cars.
Having a stage set in Iceland.
Take some unlikely manufactures cars on a Rally stage, such as Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Lotus.
Have stages at night.
Be able to take the cars to Santa Pod!
Have a prize for being the first person to complete the game, of a real Subaru Impreza WRC!

Features in a rally game...
Freedom of movement is a fairly big one for me, i.e. go off the road and instead of hitting the wall of trees actually go into the forest etc.
The ability to drive to each stage would be nice.
The ability to, erm, hit people..not very nice but it's realistic.
Massively multi-player. Play online, lan etc, but do it in such a way that large multiplayer games are possible. Players are responsible for their team being ready by deadlines etc. Just a thought but a 'real' co-driver would be interesting... maybe using the headset things the flight sim chaps do, not sure how you would implement it tho.
If someone (computer or human player) breaks down on a stage you see the car broken on the stage.
Bigger/better water splashes.
Ability to do cars colour scheme/sponsorship yourself, like GP3.
Ability to choose camera locations on the car and have a film director.
In cockpit view from car can be panned using cursor keys/mouse, would make VR headsets usable then
TV commentary section, shows the best bits of the each stage for both single/multiplayer games.
Ability to 'tune in' to a rally and watch multiplayer games TV style would be MEGA.
Better car damage models.
Make clever usage of motion blur etc, like Gran Turismo 3/MotoGP on the PS2, the best looking games I have ever seen, irrespective of screen resolution.
Little things like birds flying around etc...
Better weather systems, i.e. it can start raining during a stage, moving fog banks etc.
Better physics, mud is mud, deep/short grass etc.
Thats all I can think of at the mo!
be ready next week eh Dario?

Great stuff!
Keep the ideas coming.
I would particularly like to take road cars e.g Impreza and Focus etc - and be able to buy all the proper tuning parts from Prodrive etc and add your own cars's reg plate etc - maybe a few Scoobysport parts as well.

Dario,
How about borrowing the Gran Turismo idea of having manufacturer specific tuning kit available, like Prodrive, STi, Rallyart, Nismo etc ... that would be really good. But make loads of kit available so that you could take, say, a WRX and rally that as a standard car, but then add bits, ECU's, Water spray, exhausts...the works
Maybe do stuff like choosing dash boards, guage colours etc...corny or a cool feature?
What about a feature whereby there is a real 'serious' mode where you can tweak ECU settings?
How about, as a kinda side-game, a track day feature! You could do Donnington with a load of other kit, Imprezas, Skylines, GTi-Rs etc...I want it now! It would have echo's of TOCA 2 but that would be soooo cool.
Oh, and how about a thing where you can download cars, or somehow make your own?

Save feature during rallies, i know that sound a bit obvious but the number of games around where if you suddenly have to go out you cant save is ridiculous.

I hate games where you have to spend ages getting enough points to get a decent car to compete, I like 2 options.
1. Pick up the game and go for the quick game 'arcade mode'
2. More realistic, buying options etc mode.

Make them seem more realistic. Noise of gravel hitting the underside of the car and on muddy stages being able to see mud flying around and the glass accumulating mud !!
One games with manual gearchange you could introduce some kind of mechanical sympathy variable so if you change gears really late and cane the thing its more likely to blow up.

Munna,
I'm just after feedback from people who buy the games and drive the cars in real life - I'm not involved with the project - I just would like to see the PS2 do well and satisfy the Scooby people as well.
I'll pass on the comments and I'm sure they'll improve the game.
BTW - Sony don't pay huge WONGA - I'd have a 22B if they did.

I want...
Management stuff.
Start off as a Privateer
Loose races loose sponsorship
Win Races Get sponsorship
Dammage car Spend Money
Buy upgrades
Get prize money
Get promoted
Become a works driver
Run in the WRC
If you damage your car it should cost money to fix as well as time.
Also What about a Reccy Where you have to Write your own pace notes. Should be fairly simple to do with a menu to pick the turn/jump options. These should then get played back via the co-driver in the rally.
All the supporters should look like SubiGal

erm...sorry about being the Runt here...but is that not what you are getting paid huge WONGA for Dario1?...do you bosses know about this?....
if yes then this is what i would like to see in future rally games..:-
upon completeion of a stage where you win..FMV of the car ie:-ScooB WRC pull up to the podium..both driver and co -driver get out and spary champer's all over the spot....stupid i know but still realstic..PS bearing in mind it has to be teh Real DEAL..as in if you drove a cossie then the FMV fetaures a Mud Splattered Cossie!!..If you lose a bumber then the FMV contains' your car with out a bumper!!
Try that then for size
PPS if you happen to do this i will take 5% of all sales if this idea is used!!
How about the navigator acually reading out the pace notes?..One PC game a while back had this..i think it was rally Championship?
how about the navigator and driver swearing when they crash?

How about realistic coverage by the BBC?
i.e. you can only see a replay of the game in a fortnights time....

I would love to work for a video games company, much more fun than boring old eCommerce......
Seriously any videogames companies in the south west that want a Project manager......

The option to hear clearly the words 'hole outside' and drive straight into it.
Real pace notes are the way ahead I try to keep up when watching tv but can't, so need more practice...

A greater sense of being part of a rally. E.g.:
- When you finish a stage, the car doesn't screech to a halt, it drives off to the start of the next stage, or to the service area.
- When you start, the cars starting after you should be visible in the background.
- More spectators, even better if they could move back out of the way as you approached. Occasionally spectators or animals should dart in front of you.
- More flash cameras as you drive past, especially at night.
- People come and push you out if you go off & get stuck.
- If you go off and bend the car, it drives like it's been in an accident, with the suspension collapsing and the wheels pointing all over the place.
- Lose some gears in the gearbox, or have it jam in gear.
- Co-driver could also give advice, such as "don't rev so high".
- If you drive really badly, you get caught by the car behind. You also catch up slower/damaged cars and pass the odd accident.
Other stuff:
- Ensure that there is a good difficulty range, from arcade/beginner to hardened pro. Too many games just offer one or the other. Arcade should be arcadey, impossible to damage the car or stray too far from the road. Pro should have realistic damage, drive over a cliff or hit a tree at 100mph and that's it, your rally is over.
- More interaction from the co-driver, such as "slow down" if you go too quickly into a corner or "speed up" if you're dawdling. A few "Ow"s wouldn't go amiss when you roll the car, followed by a right old nagging.
- More opportunity to tune the input devices, such as FF strengths, adjustable linear/non-linear steering.
- Sense of speed is more important than fancy reflections off the bonnet - rally cars get dirty, so it shouldn't be a problem!
- "Amateur video" footage of your accidents, all grainy & wobbly.
- More noise difference between the different types of tyre & road surface.
- If you do offer a multi-player head-to-head or a race-style event, make sure the road is wide enough to allow overtaking.

The ability to download a picture(s) of yourself from the net to incorporate in the game so that's it's really you in the replays and podium celebrations....
