Is it just me, or is it that by the time you look to get an R1 DVD shipped over, they are just as expensive as the R2s now?

I know that the R2 discs used to be superior, but again that seems to have changed now, so most are virtually the same.

I heard that a lot of R1 discs were better than R2 wrt extras etc. (6 months ago) - although they are getting more similar nowadays.

Question

Hiya,
I've put off buying a dvd player for ages and ages until the PSX II comes out. Now that its out i recieve delivery in around 2 weeks time.. i,e my family have it but won't hand it over until Christmas day ( ) but it'll be worth it

The question. I've heard alot of things about different regions. Is it possible to get the psx to play any region dvd? what region does it play? It's just i've seen from the links above your buying your dvds from America and Oz , surely these would be different regions?

Any help on this subject would be fantastic, Thanks

I believe at the time, the only PS2's that could play all regions on release were the Japanese ones.

This has since been removed for the release throughout the rest of the world.

As far as I was aware most (all?) Sony 'Black Box' DVD players require a hardware hack for regional coding so I would doubt the PSX2 will have any SW hack.

Already this week I have bought Lost World and Jurassic Park for £20, Fight Club (2 disc) US uncut version for £13, Gladiator (R1) 2 disc for £12 and Mission Impossible 2 (R1) for £11.

Seeing as I only got my DVD player last Thursday I can see me doing a lot of buying/trading there in the coming months...

Some DVD players have a software hack - but not Sony. As Sony own film studios, they are one of the manufacturers who care most about regional encoding.

Also worth noting that there is a much bigger selection of films in some regions, Bollywood, Martial arts etc. so a region independent player (software or hardware) is the way to go.

Techtronics will modify our existing Sony or sell you a pre-modified Sony. Good service and good modification.

I agree with Alistair that multi-region is definitely the way to go.

There are a lot of movies at much lower prices if you can look at all regions. The sheer number of R1 discs is mind-bogglng especially when compared to the number of R2 discs.
