Interesting...

From Worldonline

"[Miami, 26 December ] - A human baby was born Thursday through cloning, the first on record, French scientist and member of the Raelian cult Brigitte Boisselier said.
The baby girl was born by caesarean section and the birth "went very well," Boisselier, president of the human cloning society Clonaid, said in a telephone interview with AFP.

Because the effort by the Raelians to achieve the first human birth by cloning was carried out in secrecy, it was not immediately possible to obtain any independent scientific confirmation that the baby was in fact a clone.

Boisselier, a 46-year-old French chemist who is president of the Clonaid human cloning society, declined to give further details of the birth, saying, "I prefer not to say more for now." She added that a full press conference was scheduled here on Friday. Nor would she say whether the baby would be presented at the press conference.

"We are very happy. It's a triumph," Clonaid spokeswoman Nadine Gary said earlier.

If scientifically confirmed by independent sources, it would be the first human baby produced by the highly controversial technique - and announced publicly.

It would also mark the beginning of a new era in human reproduction --the first asexual birth, the first time a child was produced that was not the product of a genetic mix of mother and father, but the identical reproduction of one of its parents.

In this case, Boisselier told AFP on November 27, the baby born Thursday would be an identical twin of its mother, albeit many years apart in age."

What? we play with nature every single second of the day, it's what humans do best. Without playing with nature we wouldnt have heart transplants, blood transfusions, the majority of life saving drugs, test tube babies blah blah blah.

This was inevitable, if it isnt true in this case, it will be soon enough. It's the natural progresion from the spice girls and girl power isnt it.

saw a movie last night called A.I.
don't know if any of you have seen this before,
but for me, it was far to close to the truth for my liking and actually scared me (not good to think about ones own mortality)

semi on topic anyway

The movie started out good then went downhill IIRC. When can I have my sex-bot then?

Oh one thing, would this clone girl have any rights? Will she look like Jessica Alba? Would I be able to have a clone army to fight my wars against robots?

So obviously none of you live as near to the Roslin Institute (of Dolly the sheep fame) of Science as I do then

It's great

I send my clone off to work every day and I go for a blast in the car and go and play some golf. Had to give him a telling off for sh4gging the ex g/friend a while back though

LOL

Dont forget, clones will be mentally shaped by their suroundings, so although genetically identical, personality wise will be diferent. It's whats in the head that makes the person.

We're already cloning girl/boy bands so a single baby girl won't matter...

We already have hundreds of thousands of perfect genetic clones in our world; They're called twins.

Don't be silly. Splice her genes with Dolly Parton for the ultimate big breasted sex machine. Silicone implants are genetics right?
