Cool

Well, tomorrow is my last day here at Mizuho, I'll be leaving at about 2pm to catch a plane to Scotland for good. Since I only visit Scoobynet when I'm at work (and earning money) I probably won't be on here for a while - depending on when I start a new contract, and (more importantly) what the connection speed is of my new client's web access.

So, before I go, I thought I ought to follow Scoobynet tradition and leave behind a farewell speech, lamenting my exit and possibly mincing off in a huff too. I'm doing it now (rather than tomorrow) to give you guys plenty of time to cop me some abuse before I sign off (so mods, can you refrain from muppetising this until around 2pm on the 20th? ).

Thanks for all the arguments, discussions, laughs, and copies of the scoob in the icy lake. It's made the last 8 months of paid dossing far less boring than it could have been.

Unlike Tiggs, I will be back though (erm, hang on....Tiggs? ) - although I can't say when.

Cheers all.

Well, I thought it was better than saying "thanks for all the fish", claiming I was leaving, and then coming back 3 weeks later. Only a complete @rsehole would do that.

Do they? Like what? Job security? I think not. I've had 2 contracts so far - first lasted 2 years, and this one's lasted 5. Two permies are being sacked at the same time as me, and loads more have gone before.

Oh, and I've got an interview lined up for Monday, too, and it's a personal recommendation from an old boss (who's dad owns the company I'm going to see) so it's about an 85% certainty (if I'm modest).

Unless, of course, you class any of the following as 'advantages':

a) Getting paid 50% less than I do (that's the ratio of contractor/permanent rates here).

b) Getting involved in office politics.

c) Having less than 35 days/annum holiday.

d) etc., etc., etc.

To reply in the MarkO tradition...

Job security.
I'm trying to get made redundant!! Fat pay-out, sell my place in London, and move to Pembs buy a place outright.

a) Getting paid 50% less than I do (that's the ratio of contractor/permanent rates here).
Not since we sacked 'em all then rehired 'em for peanuts.

b) Getting involved in office politics.
That's 1/2 the fun!

c) Having less than 35 days/annum holiday.
I only work 6 months of the year anyway! 4 on 4 off & 25 days holiday (taken as days not hours ) means I can take 50 odd days off in one stretch!

d) etc., etc., etc.
Internet, free gym, good pension, share options....

Good luck on Monday.....like you're gonna need it

So what your saying is, there's now a whole lot more bandwidth available in London?

Enjoy Scotland, I hear it almost gets as warm as -5 at this time of year.

Can you let someone borrow your login till you get back on-line so we have someone to argue with?

Good move.

That's not happened here. They didn't rehire us.
I only work 6 months of the year anyway!
Hey, I've only worked for about 17 hours this year, but I still billed for the time I wasn't working.
Internet, free gym, good pension, share options....
I get the internet here, a gym sounds painful, a pension would be nice, but the shares are work f-all so not getting any wouldn't be a problem.

Naah. Realistically the job's probably mine already.

I'm sure you'll do just fine, and stir up plenty of trouble even without my support.

Have a great time in your new home. Hopefully it won't be too long before you get another contract.

Have a great Christmas and I'll speak to you soon.

Jason.

Edited because I am a muppet.

Welcome to Scotland. Call by sometime if you are in the North East.

You must be able to afford your own PC at home, you mean scummie git.
