paper ?
Avery (or similar) labels, you can get them with 1 label per A4 sheet. Not waterproof but clear varnish or nail varnish should sort that. Probably last until you get tired of playing with it - sorry until the wee lad get tired of it
Alternatively CD labels which come on A4 sheets and are available in colour and even clear. Got a sampler pack of a few coloured ones that I'll never use, email me an address as per my profile and I'll drop them in the post tomorrow if you want them.

This is what I use ... can find cheaper but I find the epson stuff works better in an epson printer.
I might have a couple of spare sheets I could send you to try
Dave.

Try pronatprint in the town (Dundee that is).
Dunno about A4 stickers but you could buy A4 sheets of laminate.
You just print off what you want on regular A4 paper, put it inbetween the 2 sheets, peel off the protective paper on the laminate side and press together.
Ta-da...you have laminated your printout and on the back is the peel n stick bit
Costs about 90p per sheet. Used it to make stickers for my nephews skateboard
