UK DVDs work in Canada?

As the title says really.
Off to Canada fro Xmas to see my big bruvver,Really Fat Boy
, and thinking of taking some DVDs for his kids, but I have a sneaking feeling that they won't work over there. Anyone know?

They will (obviously) need a multi region player at the other end (Canada is R1) which is no problem, but they will also need a PAL TV which will be a problem. Most tellys over here to PAL and NTSC, but very few in North America do NTSC and PAL.
