What is the correct date for the MOT for a new Import bought from a car supermarket (MX5 not a Scooby). 3 yrs from Import or 3 years from registration of the 1st owner as shown on V5 ?

We've had the letter from the DVLA which suggests that the MOT is due in January. 1st Owner (not us) wasn't registered until March.

Phone 'em up. I've got an import and I imported myself. Landed on 26th nov, registered on 29th. I didn't get any reminder whatsoever, other than the road fund license slip said "You need a valid MOT certificate".
