I have never seen anything like this in my life... The sound of Humans hitting the ground/roof made me sick.

Agree! Remember watching the images, but to hear the sound........no words to describe it.

Just watching it. Its just sickening. My girlfriend is a New Yorker and is going to a huge memorial service held this evening.

Absolutely amazing programme, which I thought portrays the true bravery of the Fire Fighters of NYFD. Indeed the task of fire fighters world over.

I'm not a religous person ~ but I hope God protects the families of those involved.

agree with the above.

T

ps- what was a bit interesting was this.... i watched BBC Choice earlier today, they replayed all of their footage from 9.11 as it happened. along the bottom they showed text explaining what was now known to have happened ie. "theres another explosion" the text said..."this was now known to be the collapse of number 1"

anyway whane they reported on the crash of 93 the text said something like "either the passengers crashed it fighting with hijackers or the USAF shot it down, this has been denyed" bit conspiracy theory for the BBC!

also the footage of the pentagon was very odd, hard to see where the plane went?

all very grim either way.

amazing.

obviously no one was aware of how things were to pan out on that morning. Early on, the fire fighters really believed they would be able to put the fires out.

After the collapse of the first tower, it was obvious to the people close to the ground in the remaining tower that something catestrophic was going to happen to them.

harrowing to think that they could not leave through the main exit because of falling debris, and bodies.

An incredible program. Well worth watching. Things which affected me the most were:

1. The graphic illustration of the futility of the rescue attempts when the narrative pointed out that with each flight of stairs taking around a 30s to climb, it would take the firefighters at least 40 minutes to even reach the first floor with fire on.

2. Seeing the firefighters 'milling about' in the lobby trying to work out how on earth they should attempt a rescue. As they frantically tried to develop a strategy during the first 10-15 minutes after the first plane hit, my thoughts were on what the hell must have been going on in the floors at the upper reaches of the building.

3. As has been mentioned, the sounds of the bodies landing. It's a sound I won't forget in a long time. How on earth the people who witnessed it first-hand will ever sleep again I have no idea.

4. The outright confusion on the ground at the scene. The firefighters emerging from the lobby of tower 1 after the collapse of its twin was quite a sight - particularly hearing them discuss the fact that they assumed they must have come out on the opposite side of the building to tower 2. Despite the thing literally coming down around their ears, they didn't even realise the tower had collapsed until later.

5. The film taken whilst crouching beside the van, as the dust/debris cloud blew past. I'd not appreciated quite how much power there'd been expended in the collapse of the buildings.

A staggering documentary, and very sensitively put together.

Can only agree with that. Made it worth having a TV again in the first place.

The jumpers making the noise as they hit they ground - horrible.

You just wouldn't have thought it would be that loud.

And the poor old priest too, that was sad.

Very moving indeed. Three thousand people....when you say it out loud it just hits you.

They think (though will never be admitted) that flight 93 was shot down. Experts analysing the debris have come to this conclusion - the fact that an engine was found so far away from the crash site seems to indicates that it was blown up in the air.
Also an F16 was 15 minutes flying time from the aircraft when it was realised it had been hijacked.

RIP all.

Agree with all the above, a powerful programme. But, I would like to add in a bit of criticism. The people who edited the documentary needlessly tugged at your emotions by not showing interviews with the probationer until after they had showed he came out alive. I know the documentary started life being about him, but it turned into something far bigger than anyone could imagine.

That said, it really is quite amazing that they were on hand to film it in such detail.

I don't think they were needlessly tugging at emotions. It was clear that since the probationer was last back, by a long margin, there was some concern that he might have been the only one from that station not to survive. The focus of the documentary started on him, so I think it made the documentary come full-circle to return to him at the end.

Amazing programme

As said before the sound of the bodies hitting the ground is something I will never forget - along with the looks of dispair on the firemans faces everytime it happened

Also - the priest that died, they said he was death certificate 0001 for that disaster. It was hard to comprehend how many people died until you realised how many death certificates would have been issued.

Excellently made documentry. Whilst that guy was sheltering behind the car you saw a bit of paper in front of the camera with figures on - hard to think that was on someones desk a bit earlier

Scarey to think evil like that exists in the world.

Thoughts and prayers to everyone involved.

It's repeated on BBC Choice at 8.30pm tonight, think I might watch it again.

As MarkO mentioned the bit where the cameraman and the Fire Officer sheltered under the truck really showed the force of the collapse. I thought it incredibly ironic and very, very sad that possibly the flimsiest of things in the towers, sheets of A4 paper, were just about the only things to survive the collapse.

Also just after the South Tower collapsed when the Fire Chief and the cameraman went to try and find a safe way out of the North Tower I found myself willing them to just run and get out. That for me was the scariest part, the moments after the first collapse when they were in the dark and dust and totally disorientated. God only knows how they managed to stay so calm. Total respect to those two cameramen as well as the firemen.

To those that missed this program, it is available on DVD, hopefully with some/all proceeds going to those who need it.

Search for 9/11 on www.play.com in the R2 DVD section.

Red face

Another scary aspect was that the camera light seemed to be the ONLY light after the first collapse.....How many more people would have copped it if it wasn't for the documentary?
