Decent Satay Sauce

Satay sauce, with 2 parts a marinade for meat, and the sauce itself, memory on this is hazy, you can alter the quantities a fair bit to suit your taste
Marinade:
1 grated onion
1 teaspoon chilli powder for a spicy marinade
1 teaspoon grated ginger
'Some' finely chopped lemongrass
splash of soy sauce
splash of lemon juice
splash of balsamic vineger
Satay sauce:
1 grated onion
Loads of whole crunchy peanut butter, "whole earth" is good for satay sauce.
1 tablespoon lemon juice
pinch of salt
I'm sure there's more in the satay bit, I can't remember off hand, maybe some of the marinade ingredients go in the sauce.
Chop meat into chunks, put on wooden skewers, cover in marinade for an hour. Grill on foil with remaining marinade poured on. Eat with sauce.

Anyone know anywhere online to buy a decent satay style sauce as used in the majority of chinese restaurants? Have tried quite a few from supermarkets and the closest is Sharwooods Indonesian Satay Sauce but its still not the real deal.

The chances are that the restaurant buys from a local wholesalers (i.e. Makro, or similar). I've not been in a while, but some of those places are OK with selling to Joe Public. When I studied in Nottingham the Makro had a good Chinese section (which the restaurants definitely bought from) with Chinese brands (esp. Hong Kong). Didn't check for satay sauce though...
Makro's store locations are here if that helps.

My aunt owns a chinese wholesaler in southampton and the majority of the takeaways order a brand called "jimmy's" which is from hong kong. Also, add a little peanut butter in with the satay sauce

We just nipped out from work for some. Found that a decent restaurant also does take-out.
Had chicken satay, peking style spare ribs and sweet & sour pork cantonese style.
Oh yeah, and a pint whilst we were waiting! Works a bitch aint it?
