Ah, finally a subject I know about.
All my jetski's have been datatagged but it is not a proof of ownership. In fact, other than a receipt to say you've paid for it, there is no documentary evidence to says it's yours (like a V5 for instance).
Datatag was started out by Yamaha UK and when dealing with them I have found them very helpful.
I was in exactly in the same position with my last ski (which I sold a few months ago) and all I did was to contact them and let them know that I had now bought the ski and they changed the details for me. You must ensure that the datag is your name however, as your insurance policy will not pay out in the event of a theft claim!!
Contact Datag directly and let them know what's happened.

I recently bought a secondhand jetski privately and was promised by the guy that he would send through the datatag documentation to go with it.

Well he 'claims' he posted it days ago but I haven't received anything and am concerned that either:

a. He has not posted it and does not intend to.
b. He has posted it but it has got lost in the post.

Anyone know where I stand as the 'new' owner but without the paperwork to say I am the registered owner, or to change ownership to my name? I paid him in cash, he wrote me out a receipt for the jetski and it is now in my possession. I just don't have the datatag paperwork.

Datatags aren't like V5's. You do actually own it so don't worry. You need to contact Datatag direct
