FAO Girlies - Is chivalry stupid

It is better if guys just 'be themselves' and be nice etc rather than trying to impress and giving the wrong impression about themselves.
Nothing wrong with being an old fashioned gentleman (as long as you are modern)
I married what I thought was a nice guy, after a few years he 'turned' into one of those ******** described above, now divorced simple!
The right guy will appear one day, but Im not going in search of him

As title. If a guy did something for you for free and because he could rather than because he was going to get something out of it (whatever that may be) Would you look down on him as a Sap or otherwise.
Assuming that, you're unlikely to need him again for it, so have no vested interest in keeping "in" with him.

Yeah, but how many of you are saying that just because youre expected to? And out of the 100+ views only 4 of you said its a good thing.
Just gives credence to the saying that Women prefer men who treat them like ****.

Unfortunaltey girls are with guys who treat them like **** because more & more guys are going that way.
Nice, polite, well mannered etc etc are getting extremley rare now.
Will just result in more & more single people.

Chivalry is not dead...unfortunately it is becoming something of an ancient art practiced by fewer and fewer blokes these days.
I'm not exactly Walter Raleigh (never liked his bicycles anyway ) but I always, always, let a woman pass before me - whether that be in a lift, going into a doorway...whatever. It's a natural reaction for me.
Without women, there would not be a single man living on this planet.
Respect.
When a woman turns around and thanks me, it's nice and I feel that my politeness has been appreciated. It's nice to know that some of the old values still apply in today's society, and nice to know that women still know that there are chivalrous men around.

Well I hate to break away from the crowd () but I don't like men who treat women badly. Dated a couple of guys like that and I was the one that got hurt, so it seemed sensibel to go for a genuinely nice bloke. Best decision I ever made. I'd never go for a 'bad bloke' again. Partly because I hope to be with my nice bloke for life, but also because I've grown out of them.
To all nice blokes: Hang in there, because women tend to realise what they are missing eventually.

Make that 4 Chris
Though I sometimes wonder why I bother
Do women realise that calling a guy 'sweet' or 'nice' is as good as saying 'Sod off you looser you have no chance'

I find more and more women just barge through infront or if hold a door don't bother to say thank you etc.
So I generally I don't bother any more. Everyone for themselves in London it seems.

Yeah, no matter how many times i hold a door open, nobody thanks me I now just turn around and shout "you're welcome!"
My patience isn't quite what it used to be I mean how hard is it to say "Thanks"? FFS!

the amount of times I've heard "you're a really nice bloke BUT..."
However, if they're that shallow to want someone who treats them like **** cos its quickens them to be going out with a rudebwoy then more fool them.
Does get me down every now and again though.
astraboy.

Doing something because they want to and not because they have to is a good thing. Personally I can't stand ar5eholes and my idiotometer is usually pretty accurate...
Common courtesy and chivalry is an art that is getting buried, but I always make an effort to acknowledge it. It's nice.
If you're called "nice" or "sweet" it doesn't mean that the girl doesn't like what you're doing, or that she thinks you're a sap. If there's no chemistry between two people - why prolong it? Saying "You're a nice chap but..." is inifnitely better than saying "You know, there's nothing there...toodle pip."

agree with comment that girls always like bad guys... or so it seems.
it seems a common trait for women who cheat.. they want a bit of rough.
been there.. had that done to me (cheating)
and had the 'ur too nice' (no chemistry coz they want rough stuff)
but hey.. i am happy being me.
used to get me down tho, and probably will again if i like a lassie and get the same reply.
women tend to confuse 'grrrr' with bad boys, i think.
if only they knew...
agreed that they seem to grow out of bad boys.. or some do.
hope someone does soon and i meet her
actually, na, i dont hope that. coz it will happen...
