Just popped out for a lunchtime kebab and gave the striking firemen at my local station a nice fly-by followed by a large helping of dumpvalve.

They looked like they were freezing to death sat there.

Mmmmmmmmm....warm office.

I drove past a fire station and the idiots had set light to an oil drum, were feeding it with bits of wood and watching it burn !!!!! Who would they call upon if it got out of hand, and what sort of an example does it give to the arsonists. No wonder the army are busy - putting out the firefighters fires.

I desperatly want to pull up outside our fire station with a big fire extinguisher and put their oil drum fire out

I'm sure I'll get a kicking if I do.

Cheers

I don't think that there is any mileage in antagonising these Firemen. They consider that they have a valid grievance (which is why they are out on strike). When the dispute is settled, will you still regard them with contempt ?. When the Miners strike was on Arthur Scargill was pilloried for standing up to the government by the Sun and other rags (they were striking against the pit closures BTW). Maggie broke them, and Lo and Behold we now don't have a Coal industry anymore. Be careful what you wish for.

PS I think that they are unrealistic in their demands but if their right to strike or union membership was taken from them (like the GCHQ members back in the 80's), everyone would say that the Government is out of order. The problem with the Labour Government is that because they are funded by the Unions, They are seen as a soft touch by them, hence the winter of discontent back in the late 70's. The Labour party is only looking after their own corner (what else do you expect them to do ?)

Before you all start falling out I think a bit of clarification is required. My point was that I was in my warm car, with a huge kebab and on my way back to my cosy office while they were stood around in the cold (And look like rain soon) with only a small oildrum fire.

Thats all

It was a choice between a Chicken and Mushroom pot noodle or a large mixed kebab.........

The defence rests.

on Virgin radio they have some loony dressed as a green goddess (not the truck type) just in a green dress i reckon. Yesterday he ran up to a bunch of striking fireman and did actually use a fire extinguisher to put out their oil drum and then legged singing ( iam the greeeeeen godddess ) most amusing to listen to.

Sounds very much like Bracknell fire station.
In a 60 zone - just off the lights, oil drum with wood fire.

Our local FFs are stopping traffic at a roundabout, then while one leans in the car to explain about the strike, another crafty ****** is sticking a "I support the FBU" sticker on the back of the car My colleague had too use a wallpaper scraper to remove the sticker (from a G reg Astra Diesel). Grrrr.
