Bosch seem OK - had one for 2 years now and it's doing ok. Kiss of death I suppose. Had a hotpoint before that, which expired after 5 years, so can't really recommend that.

Bought her a pair of Marigolds, far cheaper than these mechanical devices.

After a bit of research, we bought (don't snigger) Smeg.

Seems to be well liked and reliable.

Miele is apparently king of reliability, but two stores out of the ten we trawled said that that wasn't strictly speaking any more.

Buy online and save a fortune. Pricerunner.co.uk seems to be very useful for getting the cheapest. We've bought from QED-UK.com (below average service IMHO) and hienergyshop.co.uk (excellent).

Nick.

Cheers guys - very useful advice there. I don't think I could persuade her to do it... she works much longer hours than me

I just got a new Bosch. Far quieter than the Baumatic thing that was part of the house fittings when we bought our place (and only lasted three years...).

By the way, our local Allders would match any internet price if you printed out the info and showed them.

Cool. So edit the HTML to knock off an extra £50-100, and then hit Print.

Having been a senior manager in the Allders group, they do tend to check out any price matches, also if you think about it, the Electrical appliance trade is probably the most fierce in this country.
The best isn't always cheap. I must admit that if you look at value as well as quality you would be hard pushed to beat a Bosch.
Their top of the range dishwasher is the quietist in the world, it's automatic and at only 14 litres water comsumption.

Sounds good don't it.
