Footage of the first public Autopsy since 1830 will be shown on C4 at 11:45-00:40.

I don't know if I want to watch it or not. Part of me thinks it'll be fascinating, another very gross.

So get up? Or does your mum turn the lights out at 9?

Alternatively, don't you have a video?

Pffff. 8 hours? You wuss.

I won't be able to watch it 'cos there's a good chance I'll still be here in the office then, and I don't have a telly here.

I watched it. Well, the first 15-20 minutes (i.e., until they'd removed the guy's innards and brain).

What a total bloody cop-out by Ch4. 80% of the time the camera was on the crowd or Dr. Whatshisname's face, and 19% of the time she shots were wide-angled and distance shots. None of the interesting or educational bits (such as peeling back the skin on the skull or cutting the skull open) were actually shown at all.

It's a shame, 'cos other than the Dr's daft hat, it was done quite well. The english doctor giving commentary was very good. It was just a shame Ch4 copped out and didn't actually show any significant footage of the autopsy itself.

Oh, and (obviously) the body had been chemically 'set', meaning it looked more like a movie prop than a real thing. Anyone who thought the scenes were disturbing probably hasn't watched a movie with a PG certificate or higher in the last 30 years.

Cool

I think that's a little unfair. It was a research autopsy, so the body would have been in that state normally. After rigor mortis has set in most of the liquid (blood, in particular) will also clot and solidify, especially if the body's been chemically fixed.

Were you expecting blood to come gushing out when he made the incision?!

I found it the most interesting TV I'd seen for a long time.. some of the editing was poor.. Perhaps they should air a more complete version now.. As for gore, I'm not sure I could have watched if the blood looked like blood...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2497575.stm

"Police and coroners' officials are to prepare a report for prosecutors after the professor behind the Bodyworlds exhibition conducted the first public autopsy in London for 170 years.

Officers who attended the dissection of a German man by Gunther von Hagens in an east London art gallery will pass their file to the Crown Prosecution Service who will consider whether to press charges. "

I watched it - thought it was quite interesting. Did you see the size of the liver? It's massive. Didn't put me off my scotch though. I agree that the editing was cr*p, but overall i thought it was worth watching.

Charlie.

I heard it was to be a live autopsy, so I was quite disapointed that the guy had already died .

thought it could have been done better - interesting though - i think that the good that came from the programme was highlighted by the lady guest they had on it. she shared my view, that is that the programme helped to de-mystify the whole death scenario.

don't expect that anyone who watched it would now be that squeamish if they were confronted by a dead body - or not?
