Forgive my ignorance but what does 2 pot and 4 pot brakes mean?

Refers to the number of pistons per caliper.

Wow! now that's what I call a fast response!

Are the pistons what presses the pads to the disk? is 2 pot really that bad on a scoob? or is unnecessary for some cars and needed for others?

Yup, the piston is the part forced forward by hydrolic preasure, in turn forcind the friction surfaces together. More pistons give a larger area for the hydrolic force to be applied to, therefore more preasure, more stopping power less milage out of front tyres...

Can you tell by looking whether a car has 2/4/6 pots or not?

Got a Honda S2000, no idea how many pots the brakes have (stops very well though )
