5:1 Audio Setup Questions/ Help
Got a cyberhome 528 with built in dd/amp/decoder thingy
went out and bought a set of creative inspire 5300's.
Hooked everything in and went fine. Tried a couple of disks and thought i was well impressed.
A few questions are :
if playing a disk and you can hear everyone else apart from the main character voice (eg Toy Story : everybody else was fine but you could hardly hear woody/buzz)
does this mean the audio is not 5:1
tried a few disks and at the moment, I leave the player set for 5:1 if it sounds funny drop to 2:1 and it is fine. (apart from not getting the full 5:1)
On some films you get the THX test type thingy that goes round all the speakers testing them out. So I reckon my setup is correct
Main thing is that all the vocal come through the centre speaker and when the DVD is set to 5:1 its pi5h. I cannot here them, If i drop the settings back to 2:1 it's fine but not getting true 5:1.
Tried changing the centre speaker and it works fine on another channel
Any ideas, is it cable between the DVD player and sub ?
thanks
Jase

the setup does not have an amp,
basically its a budget dvd player (Cyberhome 528L) with the decoder built in, all I did was buy a set of Creative Inspire 5:1's and hooked in via 3.5mm to RCA Phono leads.
I set the dvd player up as 5:1(analogue) and that is where i get my problem.
Have checked the speakers and thay all work, It's just on movies. ( i did a THX test thats on one of my DVD's and it worked it's way round all the speakers and its fine.
The problem is the main character vocals you cannot hear, all the surround sound works fine. Its the centre output.
I have 5 pod speakers (single point RCA) that go into the sub. then from the sub 3 * 3.5mm to dual phono which go into FRONT/SURROUND/SUB on the dvd player
Any Ideas

(only thing i have not tried is to try different cables from SUB to DVD (3.5mm to twin RCA phono) at the moment I bought some cheapo's as they did not come with the package.
Do you need a high quality lead ?

On my (completely different) set-up, I found that the surround effects were overpowering the dialog from the centre speaker when listening at relatively low volumes. My surround amp gives you the option of lowering the level of the effects speakers by 10dB relative to the centre speaker, so the dialog stands out more. You could see if that's an option on your set-up...
