Hmm, hadn't thought of that... When I was still in PNGs were still far too new (and far too expensive) to entrust to a pillock like that.
Actually, thinking about it, PNGs weren't really available at all. We were using the first generation NVGs instead.
Still, it's a funny pic and as a journalist I shouldn't let the truth get in the way of a good story, right?
SB
PS part of the last paragraph is a joke. You know - something we say that isn't necessarily true but may amuse. Just in case someone goes into a high hover about my appalling slur on (my) journalistic profession...
Edited for spelling, as usual...

can anyone else see the irony of putting a dirty great red, white, blue and yellow badge on the sleeve of a combat jacket or maybe the enemy are used to seeing bushes wearing ameican flags and are trained to ignore them.

You will probably find they are PNGs and the covers are on so you can use them in daylight, there is a tiny hole in the cover, strange I know but they do work, we had them on our starlight IWSs in the army.
But yiua are right he is a muppet

Passive Night Glasses/Goggles
Used to be called Night Vision Goggles which were about 2 generations ago technology...
It's what you see those funky green night time images through on the News. Only *much* higher definition on the latest ones...

These were the types I played about with in the Marines
8 blokes all commo'd up, creeping around the British countryside and getting paid to do it. How cool is that
Night vision rocks, I defy anyone to not be impressed using these.
The sniper rifle night-vision sights are awesome. You could shoot a Gnat in the @rse from 2000 metres in the pitch black

ROFLMAO @ V5 That's spooky
They're American, so irony ain't their strong point. Anyway, gives us something to aim at

Harold Bishop looks more like Eddie the Eagle to me...
And I bet Mel Gibson could hit that (poor defenceless) Gnat without those goggles on a windy day....
