so i had in the scoob for its service and get a mitsubushi carisma as a loaner.

of i go for my meeting in London, running very late so im doing 90ish (at least) bear in mind the car is a 1.6 bit of cack...we are at 110% here!

anyway, suddley see a police car in the mirror, lights on coming up quick.

now in the scoob i would jump on the clutch, wack it in 4th and try and scrub of some speed without the brakes flashing on and making it look to obvious.

so i did......except this is an auto so i stood on the brake!

after i regained control i realised the police car had gone straight passed and had no inteest in me! behind me was a huge cloud of dust where i'd run of the hard shoulder and back again!

all very exciting!

T

ps- if anyone wants to flame for reckless driving go ahead- i stared death in the face, im ready for ya!

edit to add if you want to flame for crap spelin the same applies!

Glad you got out of it OK ... takes time to retrain the feet for an auto doesn't it

Did the same (without cop car) myself a few years ago ... didn't half stop quick, tho'

Need to reduce speed without the brake lights coming on? I always use the handbrake...

First test-drive I did in an X-Type was an auto. I'd not driven one for about 5 years, so forgot what I was doing and used my left foot on the brake. Almost got a chance to test the air-bag.

We moved to Florida years ago where my mom had a lot of trouble getting used to driving an auto, so, my dad used to make her take off her left shoe when she was driving. Worked a treat. She got used to the autobox real quick after that.

Just after I had my Scoob I ahd to take it back in a hurry. The only car the garage had avialable was recently part-ex volvo 3.0 litre straight 6 auto Tank thing.

Very very scary. you could wind it up and make progress - if you could be sure you woulnt have to make a turn until a week next tuesday. Brakes also excellent as I found out at the first junction !

I always drive autos like go-karts. Right foot on the accelerator, left-foot on the brake.

I dont think I've ever driven anything less like a go-kart than that Volvo.

[smart ****]
I drive an auto company car, and never have had any trouble swapping between manual and auto.
I also regularly used to swap between Jap bikes and british bikes (gears and back brake on opposite sides of the bike for those who dont know) and never had trouble with it.
The only thing I DO do is get into the scoob and indicate with the wipers

When we came back from holiday in Florida driving automatic only for a fortnight I drove my car up to the barrier at Gatwick Airport carpark and juddered to a halt without depressing the clutch How many times must the carpark attendant have seen that?
