Came home tonight from a weekend in Harrogate with a mate and after a 5 hour drive and 300 miles of traffic jams and torrential rain I find a ******* Ford Mondeo parked on my drive!!! My neighbour heard it about 14.30 but the bloke was so quick she wasn't able to confront him about it. The car is unlocked and has tax till the end of the month. It looks like an MOT failure (pretty badly looked after) , its an M reg white TD Mondeo so enough said
Anyway after resisting temptation to set fire to it or blow the **** out of it I called the police to report it and make sure it wasn't stolen.
They said it wasn't reported stolen and that the owner didn't live a million miles from me but would say no more. They said unfortunately as its on private land its the land owners responsibility to deal with it. As long as I don't damage it in any way I can do what I want with it (how do they know how damaged it is at the moment ). Knowing full well the police would do **** all I said fine I will push it off my drive into the road then and make it someone else's problem! The chap said that I didn't need to tell him that and he didn't hear what I said and then told me once the tax runs out its the councils problem and that he didn't tell me that
I said thanks very much and goodnight. He pretty much told me what I already knew.
What I want to know is:-
1) If I move it and the owner gets p1ssed off can I get done for attempted theft of a vehicle if he claims he was going back for it?
2) Will the Police do me for chucking the car out on to the main road and causing an obstruction now they know it was on my driveway? It will be on double yellow lines and a major obstruction but I can't put it anywhere else and with such an obstruction on a main road it will be dealt with pretty promptly.
3) What other stuff could I get in trouble for if I move this piece of **** off my drive onto the main road?
4) Can I find out who the owner is by having the tax disk and registration number? If anybody knows how to do this I have the details and please mail me offline as I would like to pay the owner a little visit - the ******* W@NKER
5) What is the best way of handling this situation?
6) Does anybody want a free Mondeo?
7) Can anybody give me a beer cos I'm seriously fcuked off!!!! I have left my scoob at another address so as not to incur any damage should the owner of the heap of **** return.
Any serious advice will be much appreciated and if any one would like this car then contact me and I will chuck in some free beer! Its obviously still driveable as it was driven today, how long it stays like that I would not like to say

If you were in harrogate I'd offer to come across with the stihl saw....
Push it into the road, once there it aint your problem as it isnt registered to you.. after stripping it for parts.

i've got a crappy mondeo down the road too, can seee it on members gallery, butthe nerve to put it on the drive!
i would move it! If it's moved then someone else deals with it, just play stupid to the police they can't accuse you of anytihng.....blah blah... worse comes to worse they should understand where your coming from. Sods LAW a?
think rally col is on to a good idea.

If the handbrake cable was to sever itself, causing the car to roll into the middle of the road causing an obstruction, and then some little scamp came along and nicked the tax disc from an unlocked vehicle. The council would have no choice but move it. It may happen, you never know!!

Push it out, and down the road a bit (dont want it outside your house do you? ) Are there any bits worth taking out ie spare wheel, radio, battery that the local scrappy might purchase from you as "compensation" for the hassle this has caused?
If anyone says "You told us it was on your drive" then obviously they didnt hear what you said properly and what happens to it once its off your drive isnt down to you (kids nicking the radio, spare wheel, battery etc.. tut tut )
Its not yours, get rid! There was a thread exactly the same as this some months back. Seems to be getting more common.

Bravo - defo move it in to the road. People do this at my dads house and park on his drive. Some guy once left it on the drive with a flat tyre. After a day, I broke in and rolled it out onto the double yellows on the main road.
Later that day it was gone.

Is your drive sloped, if so let off the handbrake and roll it onto the road, ensuring that it causes a major obstruction.
Do not leave fingerprints on the handbake!
Do not fully reapply said handbrake!
It then becomes your word against the owners as to whether he parked it correctly. I would be very suprised if any of your neighbours saw you open the door & let the handbrake off

Put some gloves on, open the door, put a plastic cover over the seats, hotwire it, drive it through four speed cameras, then park it on a double-yellow line and deny all knowledge of the car. Make sure you clean your drive too, so there is no forensic evidence linking you to the car.

This happened to a friend recently, they were left with the car on the drive, until some hooligans let off the handbrake, rolled it into the lock up garages opposite and set fire to it!
I'd do what the police implied you should do. Get it off your drive on to the public highway, then its someone elses problem!
I doubt the police will have logged the call, they get to many calls about abandoned cars on private property to log all the calls.

Impound it at a storage rate of £150 a day then either sell it or give it back when the fees have been paid. If you have to move it a brick through the window will be fine as your storage charge will cost more than the window.

Thanks for the replies chaps
Unfortunately my fun has been spoiled as when I woke up this morning it was gone Think he had been put off collecting it yesterday afternoon/evening by my elderly neighbour who is more dangerous than a fooking rottweiller with a toothache and she was glued to her window waiting for him to return. So he must have decided it was safe to return at the crack of dawn.
Well he either left it there while he went out on the p!ss or had a change of heart and decided he couldn't give up this fine example of motor engineering
All I know is if it comes back then I am going to abuse it massively and have some fun with it before the owner comes back for it. Bloody cheek using my driveway as a public car park Wont get away with it again

I'd personally phone a local scrappy to pick it up. Tell him its for nothing, just collect - they'll pull it on by hook or by crook.
I'd have no patience for this type of car dumping. Surprised the police haven't been round and down something about it.

"I'd personally phone a local scrappy to pick it up"
Id personally read the above replies first ie : "Unfortunately my fun has been spoiled as when I woke up this morning it was gone"

Maybe time to get a rhino post for the drive mate.
Glad it's gone. Still Can't believe the cheek of some people. I would have pushed it off the drive and left it in the middle of the road.
Like MarkO says, bonfire night starts early!
