Rain is good for the garden, not good for the house as the roof and windows leak

It was actual JAMs that had the hit: Justified Ancients or Mu Mu. They changed their name afterwards!

And then burnt a million quid for an art project!

Actually, It's Grim Up North was by The JAMS, not The Justified Ancients of Mu-Mu. Although they are all the same people as KLF(They were also the Timelords), they were different aspects of their creators personalities. The KLF made the album The White Room while the JAMMS made The Black Room.

They burnt the million quid as a protest against the Turner Art prize, which they also have stormed while live on TV.

They also wrote a book "How To Have a Number One Hit All Over Europe" which came with a money back guarantee. How many of you remember that "Bring Me Eidelweiss" by Eidelweiss that sampled ABBA? That was written following the instructions in the book. It made No 1 in every European country, but only made it to No 2 here. The KLF refunded their money, as per the guarantee.

Finally, at their last gig, as they left the stage, they fired blank rounds from a machine gun into the crowd while a recorded voice proclaimed "The KLF have left the music industry".

They now concentrate on their art.

Sorry, I was bored, but I'm a huge fan of Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty.

E & OE excepted

Having left behind the happy land of break beats and silly
samples, The JAMS are heading East up over The Pennine-straddling
M62.

They pull up their truck on the hard shoulder. Behind them to the
West they can still make out the sprawling connurbation of
Greater Manchester, and those surrounding Lancashire towns, proud
in their decline. Further West, somewhere beyond where Liverpool
used to be, a dirty sunset sinks into the Irish Sea.

To the East it is already dark. The Yorkshire towns seek safety
in the Pennine valleys. The strings of distant street lamps hold
together communities like dew heavy cobwebs on a school playing
field.

But up here on this unhealing gash across the backbone of
England, the immediate landscape is a desolate moorland, with
none of the grandeur of the Highlands or classic English beauty
of the Lakes.

Three bedraggled sheep huddle for shelter in a ditch. The drizzle
toughens then climbs to a solid rain.

Heavy goods vehicles plough by. Tachographs overloading. A leaded
grime smears the verges. Sodden Silk Cut packets wonder whether
they are biodegrading. A crow flies North.

Through the downpour and diesel roar, Rockman and Kingboy can
feel a regular dull thud. Whether this is the eternal echo of a
Victorian steam driven revolution or the turbo kick of a distant
Northern rave is irrelevant.

Thus inspired, The JAMS climb into the back of their truck and
work.

November 1990.

Suggested titles: It's Grim Up North.
Tachograph Overload.
128 And Rising.
Jerusalem On The Moors.
