got carjacked - insurance question

guys,
not to bore you with the details but a friend and i got carjacked at gunpoint a few days ago. my friends car has been recovered but my laptop is gone.
i know your insurance policy normally only covers for personal property upto £100 or something. the laptop isn't insured.
any ideas on how i can recover the loss?

I've already been car jacked in NI but if we starting to hear about guns being used it's even more disturbing. Would you mind posting up here what/where this happened or e-mail me.

ps I lost nearly a grands worth of stuff along with my car and got sweet FA for it as obviously it wasn't insured. Get yourself and your mate off to a solicitor ASAP and get a claim in from the NI Compensation Agency. The claim I got from them covered ALL the losses I incured and had a few quid left to enjoy! 
It's a sh1te experience but take it from someone who's been there,don't give in to the scum and it'll just go down as a steep learning experience.

Could the laptop be covered on your home insurance? I know when a friend of mines car was broken into he claimed for all the CD's he had stolen on his home insurance!
Something to look into, and sorry to hear about the jacking.

thanks for the info guys - i shall see what i can do.
i was thinking about home insurance as well.
the carjacking was in belfast. apparently 5 bmw's were taken in the same manner that night. no doubt this is just the start :-(
we lost around £2500 worth of stuff from the car, inc. 2 new laptops :-(
