Question

Title say's it all really. Was running my nephews 1/6th scale (!) .21 engined car at the weekend and after much fiddling with the mixture got it running perfectly. This thing flies, it's fully ballraced etc and goes like a rocket. The only problem was the receiver battery pack seemed to suddenly fail and it went full speed into a metal pallet leg (fortunately while he was driving!)

Damage was fairly light considering, just a broken alloy front hub, bent front driveshaft and a bent centre driveshaft that goes between the centre diff and the front diff.

My question is, other than constantly changing the batteries, is there any way of having a failsafe that pulls the throttle closed or something when this happens?

I have a GWS-FS1 failsafe fitted to my EK4 (1/8 0.70 monster truck). It cost £16 and fits between the receiver and throttle/brake servo and when the batteries start to go or it loses signal its dialled to close the throttle and apply the brakes - how hard it does this is up to you. A thread you might find interesting: http://www.faxonwell.com/midmadn/for...d.php?tid=1016 Another, simpler way of doing it is having a throttle spring but these always drag on the servo. Some folks have both.

Your local hobby shop should be able to help you out, mine insisted I had one before I left the shop.

HTH,

Scott.

Failsafes are for girls!!!

They dont fit them to scoobs? do they??

make sure you have decent charges on the reciever and transmitter
and you'll be fine.
anyway, half the fun of having r/c products is the rebuilding after
a decent stack!!!

i've had mates stack mine up, and they were close to tears!!!
all i got was Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry!!
Get real.
if i was that bothered about it i wouldn't let them drive it!!!

You have to admit though, they are huge fun!!!!

ammendment to above post!!

i just read the thread on the guy who nearly mowed down his little girl with an RC and yes, if other people are in danger, failsafes are a good idea.

i always race my cars in unhabited places, such as carparks at 2am, empty fields/woods and industrial ares of a weekend!!

theres loads of places....

bb

sorry, didnt want to sound like a non-concerned nitro-head.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info guys - I had no idea failsafes actually existed. I'll try Models in Motion which is my local shop and see if they can get hold of one.

Another thought... Is the best way to stop the engine just to block the exhaust or to squeeze the fuel line shut?

He has the Renault Clio shell all in black and it looks really good. Spoke to him today and the cars all fixed for a cost of about £25 so not too bad. He's also looking at a Scooby shell so he's learning!
