Keeping a boat harboured in Spain/France etc
#1
Hi I am looking to buy a boat (4 berth) & have it harboured down in Spain or France so I can use it for odd weekends/short breaks etc.
I know what I need to spend on a boat to get what I want but was wondering if anyone had any experience of keeping a boat in another country.
Harbour costs ?
Maintenance costs ?
Buy the boat in the UK & get it sailed down (costs?) or buy in that country ?
Thanks for any help
Brew.

A while ago my dad had a 22ft Sealine. One family holiday we trailed the boat down to the South of France and stayed a month.
Will have a word with him regarding legalities costs etc, although bear in mind this is a fair while ago.

Be careful with french marinas, allegedly you can't legally 'own' the berth you buy, and people have been caught out when the marina fails to keep itself tidy and the government reposesses it, along with the mooring you've 'bought'.
You could easily sail a 22 footer over the channel (are you getting a yacht or a motorboat?), then spend all summer sailing down to the med.
To be honest with you, will you make the best use of it though? Don't forget it'll cost you lots to get there, and when you do you'll probably be spending time on maintenance rather than fun.
