Stink from under the floor...
#1
My wife's shop has developed a stench of rotting flesh coming, we think, from under the floor.
my hunch is it s a dead mouse or rat under there - anyone else had similar problem in a building?
Problem is if the floor needs to be ripped up to get it out it'll cost loads in work and materials to replace, and the lost custom to boot........does commercial insurance cover this sort of event?
And will the council/environmental health help?
She'll be phoning them first thing tomorrow but I be grateful for any tips

Youll be on life of grime !
We had a similar problem, turned out the pipe from under the sink had come apart at the joint and was depositing gallons of washing up water under the floor, it smelt like the house of horrors !
I crawled underneath (no mean feat, im not exactly small) and fixed it whiche entailed lying in four inches of water with bits of sweetcorn and carrots in it, it had developed a nice scum on the top and it made me gag.
I expect that a mouse decesing would not cause much of a whiff, maybe a rat would but its probably drain related, good luck !

zoog,
dont want to add to your problems, but it could be 'Rot' - one of them smells, but cant remember if its 'dry' or 'wet'???
It grows like mushrooms/fungus on the wood

Look at a drain problem rather than an animal. I guess that it would have to be big animal to cause a pong (anyone mysteriously disappeared recently?)
Another problem for properties in the last year is rising groundwater. It might be a cellar or void filling with water and soaking some rubbish which is now going rank.
