Doing one at the mo. BSc Hons in computing and related stuff. They didn't do named degrees when I started 6 years back. Should finish it next year.
If you work full time then average pace is 6 years to complete. some can do it in 4. Those who aren't working could possibly do it in 3 but that's a hell of a lot of work.
Biggest problem is motivation. Again, if you work, its a pain in the *** coming home to a pile of study.
There are plusses too! Some courses have summer schools which are all you have heard about and more. There's tutorials and self help groups if you're into that kinda thing.
OU degrees seem to be more well received by potential employers than they used to be. Probably because it demonstrates commitment and ambition.

That's great thanks.
I'm gettign details to start a Science course in Feb if I can get some finacial support. I'm mainly housebound at the mo, but when I get better I hope to keep doing it with a part time job.

Just doing one myself - just finishing 2nd year - 4 to go
did S103 science last year - very good course
computing M206 this year - boring as ell.
going back to science next year.
as said - worst thing is motivation, nodding head syndrome.

Also doing one - exam is a week tomorrow
Got a couple of years to complete mine.
Have to agree with the above - motivation. It's easier if you pick a subject you really want to learn about.
Start with a level 1 course - S103 is where I started for science-based stuff. Try not to miss out on the summer school if there is one (they're now optional). You also have to make sacrifices (cut out some visits to the pub/cinema etc), especially when an asignment deadline is looming.

Ta all!
I have 20 points of uni science modules to transfer over, but my knowledge was shakey at alevel and the start of uni, so I think I'll continue at level 1.
Summer schools sound good.

Just finishing my first year with OU - working on a Computing Degree. Had a exam yesterday, was pretty scarey, forgot what they were like!!
Should finish the degree round about 2008, picking up a couple of University diplomas on the way. could probably cut that down to 2005 or 2006 if I wasn't working.
Seems to be plenty of support from the staff & students - theres an online confrencing system that lets you talk to other people on your course even if you can't get to tutorials etc.
