Due to my being a total donut , I've had to claim on my household insurance for a replacement/repaired sofa and HiFi.....

(I've had my central heating totally re-done, and I screwed down a floorboard........right through one of the heating pipes!!!! The central heating water (got a new combi boiler) then came through the ceiling onto my sofa and HiFi seperates....)

My question is, the insurance assessor is coming to see me on Monday morning. He'll obviously see the damage to the sofa, but the HiFi, well, I haven't turned it on since (last week).

What's the deal? Will the assessor expect to try to see the HiFi working?

(Whilst I was having the heating done, thought I'd get the house re-wired at the same time!!! Had to be done - LONG story!!!)

Obviously, I'd prefer him/her not to, especially as I've just the the electrics sorted......

Can I say that I'll get some quotes to have it repaired?

What's my position?

Just tell the truth loss adjustors have seen it all & know when someone is trying to pull a fast one.

I kinda thought as such...I'm not one for exaggerating the truth...

I'm moreso keen to maintain my electrics as opposed to my HiFi....

I'll just have a chat with the person on Monday

i would assume that if you have had the place rewired you would have gone to the trouble of having a new fusebox(withtrip switches??),go switch the hifi on,if it trips that circuit you will see that the hifi is bu66ered(trust me you wont get electrocuted,and the tripswitch will save the wireing )

Just get a hair dryer (on cold) or fan or something and blow lots of air through the holes. Any water will evaporate and once dry, your amps etc will still work fine.

Would like to keep the HiFi (believe it or not!) The HiFi was a present off the wife - don't want to replace it

Will wait and see what happens tomorrow.
