Hi
This is worth a read if you have been convicted of speeding in a
30mph limit, the site is the "The Association of British Drivers" and
the page in question is http://www.abd.org.uk/30.htm
Extract from the ABD site..... If you have been convicted of exceeding
a 30mph speed limit on certain roads in the last, say, 10 years, you
may have been convicted unlawfully because of administrative
errors by the local highway authority when the speed limit was set.
You might be able to make a claim against the Police and/or the
highway authority for repayment of any fines and legal costs,
removal of points from your driving licence and damages for any
consequential costs, such as higher car insurance premiums, loss of
driving licence under the totting up procedure, etc.
My thanks to the ABD for keeping us informed.

I was done in 96 for 60 in a 30.. I thought it was a 50..
Wondering if I should try and find out if the road was correctly changed to 30 limt but then again I was speeding and so therefore was caught fair and square.. already done the time etc..

DavidLewis,
...the thing is that people are getting convicted on technicalities!!!
Speed limits are getting dropped on an ever more regular basis, and a "restricted road" does not have to post 30mph repeater signs. Thus drivers can easily be unaware of the new limit and get done.
Speed limits are reduced for so-called "road safety", but the reasons (prior justification) are posted on tiny notices strapped to the road-side. Drivers have no chance of seeing these notices, although they will be the ones most affected!!
Until we have more "Danger! Hidden pedestrian access" type signs on the road, rather than covert 30 limits, casualties will NOT reduce. If "playing" the authorities at their own game is the way to bang some sense into them, then it is a good thing!!!

Our UPS driver got caught doing over 70, uphill in his brown monstrousity not once - BUT TWICE! He said the damn thing cannot even go much over 70 on the motorway, downhill with the wind in the right direction!
I asked about his tachograph readings and he said they weren't even allow to use them as evidence! If he'd done 2 seconds over his alloted driving time and found out, they'd have him in court no problem.
I think this is a mis-carriage of justice and told him, but he said he couldn't do anything coz it would cost him too much money to appeal and there's no guarantee that he'll win.
Bad.......

Boomer, my comment was more of a general one.
Yes, I agree that in some areas, speeding restrictions are not made clear enough and in some it plainly in order to increase revenue but in others, well its just common sense that tells you to slow down.
What I was getting at was the stories you hear about people who are well and truly guilty (sometimes for murder) but get off because the police don't file the reports correctly or dont do a triple back flip with a round turn, two half hitches in the required style etc. etc. etc.
