I have a Kodak professional 35mm film. Can this be developed in the normal high street emporiums (Dixons, etc.)or does it require the services of a specialist outfit?

Yep can be done a any C41 process lab, any high street store. For professional services lookup COLAB. They will give a better colour match and will do three or four runs before the final product. Where as high street store will do one run.

Professional film should be processed as soon as possible after being exposed. The stuff has shorter than normal shelf life and unexposed, it should be kept in the fridge until ready for use.
Dunno about recommending labs in the UK but use one with a solid reputation if you want the best results.
