I'm off to London soon and while i'm there would like to check out a few decent furniture shops.The sort of stuff i like is modern wooden based furniture,simple and contemporary.
(NOT Ikea,flatpack,MFI or antiques).

Anyone suggest any good places worth checking out.

Visit Tottenham court road. This Has some great shops at the top end.

Harrods and Harvey Nics (Knightsbridge)

Selfridges (Oxford St.)

Peter Jones (Sloane Square)

 

You could try SCP on Curtain Road near the City/Shoreditch, there's a shop called Viaduct which is supposed to be great www.viaduct.co.uk, also in the City.

Upper Street in Islington has twentytwentyone which has lots of modern classics but can be v. pricey.

You could try a place called Unto This Last www.untothislast.co.uk which is really interesting and unusual. Taken from their website:

"By using the latest in 3D software, and a computer-controlled tool set up in the cellar, each item of furniture can be made on demand, with variations for each client. The objective is to recreate the atmosphere and the convenience of a local craftsman's shop.

The experiment is proving that thanks to new technology, mass-production is no longer the only way to make furniture at a reasonable price.

Their prices are very reasonable for what is effectively short run/unique bits of furniture. No, I don't work for them either,

If you go to Tottenham Court Road you should visit Heals and Purves and Purves. Standard tactic is to visit Heals for inspiration and then see if you can get it somewhere else for less, like the (S)Habitat store next door.
