Can they do that? They're saying that I can't give notice at all and that I'm obliged to work the entire 3 months! This isn't so bad, but in the future they're talking about 6 month extension

No-one HAS to sign a contract. Either ask for it to be changed, or walk.
Best of luck, and I'm not being sarky.

No notice period doesn't cover them either...Worst case scenario - if you failed to do the job expected - they could not sack you. Request a notice period - it's not unreasonable.

Jlang, if I read your post correctly they are saying, effectively, that you are on three months notice.

Its not uncommon and its not unreasonable. If you want the work accept it. If not go somewhere else.

What will happen to them if you walk halfway through the contract -hardly fair to the employer is it?

Also if they want to get rid of you, they need to pay you the full 3 months. It works both ways.

If your contract is an IT related one and the rates are good, I would stick with it. 9 month contracts are rare these days...
