A good way to get kids to move on is to play really **** music near them that they'll hate. A lot of supermarkets play 50s stuff in their carparks to make the spotty youth of today **** off elsewhere.

my house backs onto fields, just behind my rear fence are 3 horse chestnuts then open fields.
it seems that a group of 5-8 10-13yr olds have decided that this is just the place to get their conkers from and so have spent a week bashing the hell out of the tree with branches they have ripped of it!!!!
now these kids are not rude (in fact they are behind our fence so have no interaction with us at all) and the trees are on public land...BUT...now the conkers have all gone they have decided to set up camp there! they have made a little tent out off tree limbs and old scrap! it now looks a mess and although i cant see it from the garden it looks cack when i go into the field to walk the dogs.
anyway..1. am i to fussy?
2. if not what can i put on the trees (around the trees) to keep them away? i was thinking of something sticky that i could spray on a few low braches to stop them climbing them? any ideas?

I'm glad that, when I was a kid, our neighborhood wasn't full of people like you. I was always building 'camps' in/under trees. Great fun.
Leave them alone, its nice to hear an example where children can still be children.

I'd be grateful they are being kids instead of lying drunk on the streets taking drugs and vandalising your car. Help em build a base in return for keeping an eye on your car when your away

yeah yeah, you left wing tree huggers
these kids are NOT gonna play near my house! you want to sit in your garden and see them sat in a tree 20ft away? if so let me know where you live...i'll send them over
so anyway..all this "let kids be kids" crap aside...what can i spray on the trees?

Victor Meldrew. Count yourself lucky. The kids of that age where my Mum lives (Leeds) steal cars, rob houses and set fire to things and pelt the firefighters with rocks when they come to put the fires out.

just cause i dont live in beiruit doesnt mean i want my garden to look like a casting for byker grove!
because i am able to leave the car unlocked all day does that mean i should put up with base camp alpha out the back??????
hope it rains soon...that'll put them off!
T
ps- what about engine oil? would that hurt the tree?

As mentioned before, I am very glad no one like you was around when I grew up! Playing in trees is one of the most natural things kids do and especially setting up camps. I did this loads when I was that age, we never damaged anyone's private property and we all turned out well adjusted crime free people. Be thankfull these kids aren't throwing things at your house or out drinking and smoking.
if it bothers you so much when you walk the dog then walk the dog somewhere else. Spraying stuff on trees that aren't even on your land makes you worse than the opinion you have of these kids.

I'm sorry, but I'm "for" the kids too. So many are causing people "real" nuisance these days, "your" ones sound very innocuous.
I have to agree with the bit abt getting on with them too. It doesn't take much effort. When I was first married, we lived in a council flat in a very rough part of town. I owned a Ford Escort Mexico. I could leave it on the street with impunity because the local teenagers thought I was a "good bloke" 'cos I let all their little brothers and sisters help me clean it on a Sunday!!!!
I suppose these days I'd be denounced as a child molester in the making!!!! Alcazar

An industrial sized tub of Vaseline rubbed on the brances of the tree should provide hours of entertainment for both yourself and those pesky kids
Try mixing the Vaseline with fabric dye for extra effect.

let me assit you "let them be" softies with some pictorial evidence!
see the red square? thats camp site alpha!!!
see the green area? thats the scattered branches, twigs, logs, general rubish thats been thrown around.
see the foot path? beyond that is miles of open land and plenty of trees no where near a house!
they can sod off.
got to go, gonna cut down their swing

Have to say, Tiggs, you're coming across like a right moany old barsteward.
Assuming they're not joyriding, injecting themselves, or thieving, surely you should be pleased?
But I think the main point here is that it's not your land - so bad luck. If it were me, I'd have a quiet word with the kids and ask if they could move their camp to the other trees, but really you don't have a leg to stand on....

Anything that keeps em away from real trouble is good. I live in a quiet col-de-sac and there are loads of kids in the street, all well behaved and they all love the car and help clean it when I'm doing it. In fact this year I got one of those above ground swimming pools and let them all use it. Mind you I do have Police clearance due to what I do for a living and the local parents know what I do, I guess anyone else would be looked at suspiciously, shame the world has become what it is

Well, I'm impressed!!: :
I do hope you're one of those peolpe who takes home all his dog's "leavings", as I wouldn't like to think of those harmless children getting toxicara?
I'm gonna laugh and say "told you so" if they come back at you/your car though..................: : : : :

Tiggs, you miserable get!!
Leave em be, they will soon get bored of it, as there is no electricity for them to plug in their playstations... so they will be gone in a little while ....
Other than forking out some of your hard earned pennies and get a "Tree Surgeon" to come and cut it down...
Or complain to the council that it blocks the light into your garden and get them to come and cut it down....

The Raptors will be fine to leave out in the rain. However you must make sure they don't get too cold. If you have any Puffa jackets around, just put them on them and they'll be fine.
