Unhappy

We have been looking for a baby grand piano for my wife for some weeks now (she is a classically trained pianist and about to give up work to have a baby so finally has the time to play again (so she thinks )) finally last week we found one, arranged to go and see it this weekend cash in hand etc. However he phoned last night to say he had sold it to someone else so she is extremely disappointed.

Do any of you have any local piano shops or private sellers that you could let me have the details of? We have a reasonable budget and are trying to find something classical along the lines of a Bachstein (probably spelt wrong), however will probably consider a new Yamaha at the right price. It has to be 6ft or less due to space but 5ft3 min.

Also do any of you have experience playing the Yamaha pianos? Are they any good? (bear in mind I know squat about them but will pass info home).

Cheers all,
Sean

Apparently yamahas are characterised by a 'bright' sound, but they are good instruments and used in a lot of studios etc. A smaller grand will have less bass as there is not room to get the long strings in that give you the bass resonance. Some upright pianos are 'overstrung' which means they somehow get longer strings in by stringing them diagonally or something. I only know all this cos a friend of mine has just bought a grand (Bluthner) and has been talking about pianos 24/7 for about the last year.

Charlie.

My Girlfriends sister runs a Piano restoration and sales company. Their pianos are seriously seriously good.
Have a look at http://www.caradine.co.uk

Mark

PS Apparently Yamaha pianos used some of the best componentsbut aren't made as well as some more expensive ones. A guy from the above company said that the Yamaha would be one of the best pianos in the world if he built it!!
