just opening a business account.. went to HSBC. banked with them for 11 years never overdrawn.. big loan earlier in year for scoob.. Declined on doing a search with a credit sgency.. Never had ANY bad debt.. Not interested in looking at my impeccable record with them... just go away!

Went to Lloyds explained the situation with my own bank.. No problems.. account opened same day... BTW I was not trying to borrow money.. I have £300k to deposit.. go figure!

Maybe that is the problem, I don't want to borrow money either!

Service in banks often depends on the local branch perhaps?

I opened a business account with HSBC approx. 3 years back. At the time I had been a personal customer for about 10 years or so. No borrowing requirements. Account was open (can't remember how long it took but that wasn't a big issue for me at the time) with no charges for the first two years.

They also offered me a (personal) mortgage some six months later, with no accounts etc. based purely on their own internal records.

No major problems with my dealings with Lloyds TSB or Barclays, just generally found they tend to take twice as long to do things as HSBC. Again I reckon probably down to local branch issues.

PS. My local HSBC is *not* Reading, despite my profile...

I would would second this

We use the small local Barclays and the service is fantastic. They even count all our change orders, as we have had problems when it is just shiped in from the main branch.

Well done girls ! (Not being sexist, they are all girls - for the PC lot)

Lloyds TSB for me - seem to be very good so far (9 months) and send you interesting letters/newsletters as well.

They also have a great website just for business customers at www.success4business.com

The length of time it is taking to open up an account is just crazy. I will give the other suggestions a try, cheers guys.

I used HSBC and have done for around 7 years. They're not amazing, but they're no less sh*t than the other banks.

I use them primarily because they also run my personal accounts, meaning that if I have a personal cashflow crisis I can transfer money from the company accounts to my own instantly.

In my experience of banks, it will always be down to the people involved, some are better than others, and that will be what makes the difference between each bank. The processes and product sets will be roughly the same

Used to use Natwest - I suffered poor slow service and they were dear...

Now use HSBC - much better.
