Question

To settle a little dispute.......

What is the deal here?

If I travel from Home (say Northampton) and have to visit a company in Gatwick, but my office is based in Hemel Hempstead (which forms part of my normal daily commute)

What mileage should I claim? 90ish or 45ish??

And what about if I go to Nottingham, do I claim from home or work?

If someone can send me a link to this info I would appreciate it.

Whichever is the least mileage, unless you go to the office before seeing the client.

There's an IR booklet called something like "Using a private car for business purposes" -- do a search for it on the IR website at www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk

BTW if your company pays mileage at below the IR-approved figures (40p/mile for the first 10k, 25p/mile thereafter) you can claim the tax back on the difference at the end of the year

Yeah as far as i was aware its your mileage from home to the destination, minus your mileage to work, unless you go to your work first or your home is closer to the destination than your work.

Good job i live 3/4 mile from work, makes it so much easier

Dave

Not sure of the exact line of business that you are in or what you do, however is there any way you can claim that you work parttime from home, which coincides with this sort of longer travel

That's true, but when I completed my 3-years worth of tax returns (just for using my Scoob for work), they never checked any details - just sent me a nice fat check for £5K. Which was nice
